Dr Paul Williams MP - Representing all of the people of Stockton South

Before I went into politics I was a GP, working in a practice in Stockton-on-Tees and sitting as CEO of Hartlepool and Stockton Health. I also spent five years in Uganda, running a health programme, involving the implementation of a community health insurance scheme. This involved setting up a community hospital near the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, which provided HIV, Malaria and tuberculosis services.

I decided to run for Parliament because I became deeply concerned about the challenges facing our NHS and the inequalities we see in society. Rather than sitting on the side-lines, I decided to bring my experiences as a GP working in frontline healthcare to Parliament in order to make a difference.

After winning election to Parliament I was selected by my fellow MPs to sit upon the Health Select committee where I use my experience as a GP and my position on this committee, to uphold the values of our NHS and hold the Government and Secretary of Health to account. My maiden speech focused on increasing efforts in preventative care in the NHS, and I have continued to raise this in Parliament since.

I enjoy taking part in swimming, cycling, running and triathlon events, and l live in Stockton with my partner Vicky and daughters.
